A host of European giants have been dealt a blow with the news that England international Danny Drinkwater wants to remain at Chelsea this summer.
Simon Johnson of the free daily newspaper London Evening Standard reports that the midfielder has spoken to Italian manager Maurizio Sarri and he is aware of his position within the Blues squad.
English journalist states that Danny Drinkwater remains confident of proving his worth to the new Italian boss after the terrible first season at his new club.
Drinkwater has fallen out of favour as a result of the arrivals of both Italo-Brazilian star Jorginho and Croatia international star Mateo Kovacic, while talented midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has also returned to the club following his loan spell at the Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
It had been suggested that the star could depart from the club on loan before the new campaign kicks off as he goes in search of regular playing time.
Danny Drinkwater only joined the west London giants back in January in a huge-money deal but has struggled to hold down a place in the Blues side.
