European champions Real Madrid have reportedly joined league rivals Barcelona in their pursuit of Chelsea central defender David Luiz.
According to reports in the Spanish media, as cited on Calciomercato, Real Madrid are also keen on signing the Brazilian, who has impressed under Maurizio Sarri this campaign.
Luiz has been connected with Barcelona in the latest weeks, with the La Liga heavyweights needing to strengthen at the back in January window.
The Brazilian star’s form has alerted the Camp Nou outfit, but the west London giants will be reluctant to lose the player in the new year.
Luiz has been rejuvenated under Maurizio this season after spending most of the previous campaign on the sidelines under Sarri’s compatriot Antonio Conte.
He has formed a solid partnership alongside Germany international and former AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, with Chelsea looking nervous at the back when either of the two are not included in the starting eleven.
Sarri himself is interested to put his own stamp on the defensive and Chelsea may need to sign a replacement before they would consider selling David.
