Arsenal coach Unai Emery has no interest in landing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes in spite of being linked with the Portugal international.
The Independent suggested previous week that the Gunners were planning to use the sale of Aaron Ramsey to fund the purchase of the 24-year-old star.
Emery is understood to be a long-term admirer of Gomes and was preparing an offer for £30 million to bring him to The Emirates Stadium.
However, those reports have been quashed after the Spanish nationwide daily sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed Emery is focusing his attempts on other midfield targets.
Gomes has struggled for regular senior team opportunities at Blaugrana since arriving at the Camp Nou from Valencia in 2016.
He has made just 39 starts in all competitions in two campaigns with Barcelona and has failed to prove himself in a midfield which was added to by Philippe Coutinho’s arrival previous January.
The ex-Benfica player missed swathes of the last term through injury and as a result, was among a handful of players left out of his country’s World Cup squad who had won the European Championships with them two years previous.
