Southampton held negotiations with 26-year-old Liverpool winger

Southampton have reportedly made an enquiry as to the availability of Takumi Minamino this summer, with Ralph Hasenhuttl keen on keeping the Merseyside giants winger at the club.

Japan international, signed from RB Salzburg in winter 2020, struggled to ready the world alight at Liverpool, with the strength the Reds possess in front-line complicating his route into the starting eleven.

As a result, he signed for the Saints on a short-term loan in the winter of this year, scoring two goals in ten PL games, both of which came in his first three matches.

Takumi evidently showed enough promise during his short spell at St. Mary’s to impress Ralph Hasenhuttl, as he is keen to keep him around for the next campaign.

The report claims that the Saints have made an enquiry to determine Takumi’s availability, with the Reds ready to hold talks with the Japanese winger over his future at the club.

It remains to be seen what the Reds intentions are, but the footballer himself is hoping to be playing regular first-team football, something he is unlikely to get at Liverpool. Reds could certainly do with a quality signing in the front-line this summer after the dip in form of Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in the campaign just gone.
